What Would $1M Mean for Arlington’s Schools?

Elementary Schools
  • 4 classroom teachers to decrease class sizes
  • Restore Art and Music to once a week
  • Restore Physical Education to twice a week
  • 7 Library aides to keep the libraries open
  • 1 ACE teacher to partially restore program for gifted students

Middle School
  • One Grade 6 World Language Teacher to expose students to foreign languages
  • Restore Math support
  • Partially restore ACE program for gifted students
  • Partially restore Drama program
  • 1 Half time Physical Education Teacher to decrease class sizes
  • Restore Reading support

  High School
  • 1 English teacher to decrease class sizes
  • 1 Guidance Counselor/Transition Program
  • 1 Part time Art Teacher
  • 1 Part time FACS Teacher to teach the Chefs program
  • Athletic Fee Reductions to decrease the $500 fee students must pay for every sport
Other
  • 8 Traffic Supervisors to cover the most hazardous crossing areas at each elementary school and the middle school.


If $1 million is not raised, funds will be allocated based on a priority list proposed by principals and administrators, which the School Committee approved. Costs were calculated using estimated salaries. For more information on the FY11 Budget Add Back costs without priorities, please the list on the Arlington Public School website.
